Well, that certainly caught her off guard in more ways than one.
She was having a delayed response to the situation
(as usual to any situation, really),
she was simply standing with a utterly baffled expression.

      — And then the situation sunk in.
fully processed in her brain & ready for action, per say.

    ’ — uh..pardon? ‘
flawless use of the moments wasted as she stood there.
         just utterly flawless.
         a+ reaction.

          Facial features relax, expression losing
          its s t y g i a n edge and becoming relieved,
instead. She directs a smile blooming with
innocence at the other girl. On the off chance
that her inappropriate statement hadn’t been
          heard, she says,

     'Y-Yeah? Is something the matter?’

Please tell me you didn’t hear it.

╰☆ —- She laughed softly. “Oh no sorry, I am just here to help other people.” she spoke clearly.

'Oh, um, okay. Do you, by any chance, know where the assigned room for the cat obsession support group is?’

He’s amazed she hasn’t put two and two together, figuring out he was just fucking around with her. She didn’t look or seem like the gullible type, but he was going to follow the whole ‘don’t judge a book by it’s cover’ thing. While she stumbled back, he only got closer. With his hands shoved in his pants pockets and his gaze focused on her contrary to her sight not set on him. What was she? Scared of males? Awkward as hell? A germaphobe who didn’t like people in her personal space nor did she like looking people in the eye? Nah, Calvin might have been coming off like a creeper. “Ah,” letting out a sigh as he turned his body away from her’s and placed his arms to rest behind his head. “Don’t get your undies in a twist, I’m just trying to get a rise out of you..”

'That's—that's—’ she stumbles over her words, before finally stopping her fleeing movements and crossing her arms. Lips form into a scowl. Pink embarrassment hasn’t completely drained from her cheeks yet, but it was much fainter now. In a voice much calmer, and infinitely more whiny, than before, she says,  'Dude, what the fuck.’

image

Oh, she had no qualms about using bad words around this guy, now. While painfully awkward and bumbling, especially around strangers, the irascible girl had quite the short fuse.

It was actually taking all of Kazuki’s effort not to just burst out laughing like that. He had already turned his body so he wasn’t directly facing the girl, as he was sure that any made eye contact with her would only make his fit of giggling even worse. More than his shoulders were beginning to shake as his hand was still firmly clasped over his mouth, determined not to let any of his stifled laughter be heard. He couldn’t even properly answer the girl’s question.

He was surprised when he heard her laughing along, but was secretly pleased by it and finally took his hand off his mouth, letting his laughter ring out loud and clear. He swiped at a tear in his eye before it could form and turned to look at the female, grinning. “Sorry about that…couldn’t help it.” He ended his sentence with a chuckle, which was a laugh he had managed to control so it wouldn’t come out as loud as it originally would have.

'I can see that,’ she remarked dryly. Eyes fixed on him still danced with mirth, even though her lips were only shaped in a faint smile. The sight of someone laughing because of her made her quite happy. Something like that was enough to lift ones mood.  And when you spent a few minutes giggling with someone, it was a lot harder to be embarrassed around them, easier to do bold things, like introducing yourself first.

     Yeah, absolutely bold.

‘My name is Helina.’ Her arms stayed by her side; nothing personal, but she was never a fan of handshakes or anything that involved skin contact. Even during the Mass, when everyone sang the Lord’s Prayer she always kept her hands to herself unless she was her parents, who would force her to hold their hands.

“You could have paid more attention!” Oh how fun
this was for little Chiyo!

     'Well, I’m paying attention now.

I knew I wouldn’t regret my choice, he thought, as he placed a hand over his abdomen due to the pain of his laughter. It was simple to make him laugh really, though it was a rarity to witness him in such a fit of bliss.

For reasons only known to him, he continued to chuckle at proclaimed amusement.

As if he had never began laughing the male cleared his throat and straightened his demeanor and her soft spoken words.

Helena, he rolled of his Irish tongue. A pleasure. Name’s Logan. Just as he offered his name, he extended an extremity across the table in hopes for a proper shake.

Laughter always affected her, and the sound of his seemed to help ease her nervousness, if only a little. She waited for him to finish, lips twitching into a more genuine smile as she attempted to repress her own giggles.

Before she could change her mind, she took his hand with hers and gently shook it before letting go as soon as possible. Warmth radiated from her cheeks again; skin contact, especially with strangers, always made her feel embarrassed, for some reason. It was why she was so wary about it.

In an attempt to both distract herself and initiate a proper conversation, ‘So, um, what are you doing around here?’ Wasn’t that obvious? 'Wait, no. I meant, do you want to order something?’ Inward face palm. Smooth. Very smooth.

Brief blinks are offered in return, lashes swift as a butterfly’s wing.
There’s something about the girl that refutes what leaves her mouth, but she
doesn’t have the honest right to pry. Instead, manner casual with her voice
betraying doubt,

               ❝ Are you sure? Y’seem a little… upset.

Lips curve to form a weak sort of smile as
          delicate shoulders shrugged away hesitation.
Oh, it’s not like she was going to be judged if
she told this stranger what was bothering her.
Besides, that was all she was: a stranger. It
wasn’t like she was going to stick around
enough for her opinion to matter.

'A little. They just ran out of pretzels.’

He had quickly directed his gaze away from the other and towards the packets of candy on the shelf in front of him, intent on ignoring her and pretending that nothing had ever happened, as most people seemed to do in the most awkward of situations. But now that Kazuki thought about it, he had to admit. It was pretty hilarious. He actually wished that he had caught the whole thing on his camera phone.

Head turned to look back at the female in surprise as she began to apologize. “Pfft,” he stifled a laugh by biting down on his lower lip and reaching up to partly cover his mouth. A tiny giggle escaped past his lips but there was nothing else after that, except for a slightly mischiveous smile.

“Thanks.” He said as he gladly received the Skittles from her. Another, louder giggle found its way out before he could stop it and the male immediately clapped a hand over his mouth, eyes darting away from the other as his shoulders began to shake with his unheard laughter.

█▓▒░ —— ✎

‘H-Hey! What’s so funny?’ She fought to make her voice stern, but something like that, she now discovered, was quite difficult to do when one’s skin was still crawling with embarrassment. And the question was useless, anyway. Sadly, she knew exactly what was funny.

It didn’t take long for her to crack. She had always been one of those people who laughed easily, especially when someone else started laughing first. Crying? Not so much. She was very good at holding tears in. But when it came to laughing, well…

image

A giggle bubbles out of her lips, which she instantaneously covers with her hands. Trying to control herself, she shot him a look, but its effect was easily ruined by the laughs that escaped her every now and then. To the passers-by, they must have looked like a strange sight.

He couldn’t chuckle even if he wanted to at her last comment. His eyelids narrowed more than they already were, now going from lull-like to full on glaring. “So a weird person or crazy person might mistake me for a bitch? I’m fifty percent bitch? Is that what you are saying?” Where this conversation was going he had no idea, but he was messing with her. With the stuttering and new-found nervous or embarrassed behavior she was displaying, he was enjoying himself. “You call your friends bitches? Hmph..” Scoffing only to keep his feigned annoyance going.

He wondered how long it would take her to end whatever was going on with him, coming to her wits end or something along those lines. Then again, he’d probably just follow her around because he had nothing better to do and she seemed like she could be good entertainment. He took note of the height difference, bending down so he could level his face to her’s. “Are you looking for a fight?”

█▓▒░ —— ✎

Eyes widened in embarrassment, and she could feel her heart beat speed up like it was on a race with time. Unfortunately, while the young girl was a very skilled liar, she wasn’t quite as good at spotting the signs indicating that a person was only acting. Feet stumble backwards, an almost unconscious gesture, and she finds that her eyes cannot meet his anymore. ‘No! You misunderstand,’ she denies. 'And it’s just an endearment thing!’

image

Phase One. The combination of adrenaline, fear, burning embarrassment, and the male’s close proximity makes her take even more steps backward. Phase Two. Once she deemed that they were a safer distance away, she went on defensive, 'W-What!? How did you even come to that conclusion?’

Well, if one could consider that defensive.
